Dr. Marshall

Dr. John D. Marshall D.M.D.

In the month of August, in the year 1971, as Dr. Robert Davis was opening his practice, Dr. John Marshall was born. With parents being in the field on education, his father Thomas, a retired elementary school principal and his mother Gayle, an elementray school librarian, Dr. Marshall and his two sisters enjoyed being raised in Panama City, Florida.

Receiving his A.A. degree at Gulf Coast Community College, Dr. Marshall then continued his studies at UAB where he received his B.S. in Natural Sciences. Graduating in the top 10% of his dental class at UAB, Dr. Marshall excelled in the challenges of cosmetic as well as restorative dentistry.

While in dental school, Dr. Marshall met his wife, the former Rhonda Rushing, a Northport native, who was finishing her masters degree in higher education administration. Ironically, it was Rhonda’s mother, Gracie Rushing, a dental hygienist with Dr. Robert Davis, who introduced Dr. Marshall to Dr. Davis, her employer for over twenty years and as they say, the rest is history. In 2000, Dr. Marshall became a partner with Dr. Davis at the Center for Cosmetic & Restorative Dentistry.

Dr. and Mrs. Marshall have three children Anna Grace, Alison Blair, and Lane Daniel. His relationship and love for his family is one of the most important aspects of his life, which makes spending time with his family his most favorite hobby.

Dr. Marshall and his family are members of the First Baptist Church. When not at the office, Dr. Marshall enjoys creating music on the piano and guitar. Also a fitness buff, he enjoys boxing and running. Making sure he stays centered, Dr. Marshall travels on mission trips to help those in underdeveloped countries with free dental care.

Dr. Phan

Dr. Van H. Phan D.M.D.

Born in Vietnam, Dr. Phan came to the United States at the age of three where she grew up in Orange County, California.

After graduating from the University of California in Biological Science, Dr. Phan attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. Upon Completing dental school, Dr. Phan did her residency at the University Medical Center in Fresno, California.

Not only is Dr. Phan the only female dentist in the group, but also one of the funniest. Her easy sense of humor and true devotion to dentistry makes it easy to see why she fits into the practice so easily.

It has been noted by her patients that she is extremely conscientious about her work as well as making sure that each patient is relaxed and comfortable. You could say she adds a “feminine touch” to the group.

Married to another dentist, Dr. Phan, in her free time enjoys shopping, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends. She welcomes her new daughter Sophia.

Dr. Shofner

Dr. Del M. Shofner D.M.D.

It is no surprise that Dr. Del Shofner’s patients adore him, due to his keen sense of humor and the ability to put anyone at ease.  Actually, due to the friendship of Dr. Marshall and Dr. Shofner, West Alabama was lucky to get him to locate here and start his practice.

Born in Montgomery, AL, yes, the same year Dr. Davis started his practice, Dr. Shofner graduated from Trinity Presbyterian High School.  Graduating from the University of Alabama in Birmingham with a major in Natural Science Mathematics and a minor in Chemistry, Dr. Shofner decided to expand his education and fulfill a mission of becoming a dentist.  It was while they were students at UAB, that Drs. Shofner and Marshall met and remained in contact as each pursued their dental education.

While at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where Dr. Shofner received his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), he met and later married his beautiful wife, Van, also a Dentist now practicing in Northport, AL.

Dr. Shofner is very attuned to the fact that people seek Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry for a variety of reasons.  He realizes that some people simply want to look younger and there are forms of cosmetic as well as restorative dentistry that are like a dental facelift, quickly reversing the natural aging of the teeth.  However, his main goal is to help the majority of those who have had unattractive teeth their whole lives and have always felt self-conscious because of them.  They rarely smile, which can often hide a warm side of their personality.  It is his desire to see a smile on every patients face, that motivates Dr. Shofner each day.

When not working, which isn’t often, Dr. Shofner is a member of the Sixth District Dental Association, The American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry.

However, just mention University of Alabama Football and Basketball or University of Pittsburgh Sports Program and you will see the competitive side of this dentist.

Family and friends are the cornerstone of Dr. Shofner’s daily life. Enjoying golf, traveling and hiking, he has to admit his main focus is on the women in his life, two beautiful daughters Sophia and Ava and partner and wife Van.
